This article will examine the different choices facing the prospective LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) student when they are considering which LPN program enrol upon. LPN programs have proliferated as the demand for the LPN in the healthcare setting has increased dramatically in recent years.

As a general rule the typical LPN program lasts involves a combination of study of certain topics such as anatomy and physiology, broadly book based study, and, perhaps more importantly an element of working directly with patients. Overall, the timeline for start to finish of a typical LPN program should be considered as between 1 and 2 years.

If you are not close to an LPN school then you now have options to still qualify as an LPN by enrolling on one of the many online LPN programs that have been created in recent years. These type of LPN programs allow you to undertake the study portion of the program online. Another benefit is that online LPN programs tend to be shorter in length, with not many extending beyond 12 months in length.

If you have family commitments or are considering qualifying as an LPN at the same time as continuing to work in your current employment then the online LPN programs may be your best option. These LPN programs allow you to do your study online and do not need you to turn up to the LPN school for your classes.

Improvement in medical techniques have meant that the number of medical procedures which require subsequent services provided by LPN's has increased significantly. In addition the population is living longer and therefore LPN services will be required more and more as the aging population needs more and more elderly care.

The result of the increase in demand for LPN services is that competition for LPN jobs is not significant. There are in fact a shortage of LPN's compared to the number of LPN jobs available.

There are clearly plenty of opportunity to be taken advantage of in the nursing world. The basic requirement to enrol on an LPN program is to have achieved a High School Diploma. This makes the world of the LPN accessible to many.

As you can see, LPN programs are flexible, and prolific and the entrance requirement for prospective students are not too onerous. Hopefully this article has allowed you to appreciate why a career as an LPN would be rewarding and fulfilling.
