Winning at Online Blackjack

Everyone is no doubt familiar with the concept of card counting, especially given the release of Hollywood casino blockbuster ’21’. But this theory falls flat on its face when it comes to playing blackjack online.

You would think that card counting online would be easy. After all, you are playing with a single deck and you have all the time in the world to sit and keep track of the cards that have been dealt without having to worry about the casino floor cottoning on to your activities. Sadly, however, card counting online at a casino is a thankless task due to the fact after each and every hand there is a shuffle. There isn’t even much point in varying your stake due to this constant shuffling.

So, just how DO you go about winning at online blackjack?

Firstly, it’s worth bearing in mind that unlike many other online casino games– blackjack is in fact somewhat predictable and not as random as you may expect.

The most lauded strategy for playing online blackjack is a combination of betting and playing strategy. The betting strategy relies on a hefty bankroll which will allow you to ride to swings which will inevitably come and give you freedom to continue increasing your bet until a win arrives. A playing strategy deals with hand selection and choosing the right spots in which to double down. The best place to be considering a double down is any combination which gives you a total of 11 from your first 2 cards (i.e. 8 and 3). You have great odds of catching a 10 or a face card so, unless the dealer is showing an Ace you should always be looking to get extra money into the hand with an 11 total.

Much attention should always be placed on the dealer’s up-turned card (the one you can see). If the dealer at the casino is showing an ace or face card extra caution must be taken. That said if you are holding 14 and the dealer is showing a King, you effectively must take an extra card as the odds of the dealer not holding a winning hand against your 14 is unlikely.

It is of course worth remembering that the house does always have an edge, even when perfect strategy is employed. But, you can reduce this edge by making a good selection when choosing which online casino to play at.
