Let's face it, it's hard getting divorced. Whether you're two adults with a house, car, and pile or bills, or a family with children each situation is difficult. In the beginning everyone is hurting and the only way to make things better is to finalize everything. You both want out, but the obstacles and hoops you have to jump through to get everything done is complex. So instead of working against your ex, take the proper precautionary measures.

The first step is understanding the law. Each state has their own set of rules and if you miss something you could end up with nothing. You should review everything you possibly can on your own, even before seeing a lawyer. If you take the initiative to do this first, the rest of the process will run a lot smoother.

This will help you cover all bases before you head into your trial or dissolution. There is going to be a lot of paperwork that switches hands throughout the course of the proceedings. You're going to have to fill out forms, sign others, and basically keep all your ducks in a row. This is expensive in itself, so getting a divorce kit may help. However, if you can't do it right, then hiring an expensive lawyer is going to be essential.

Most importantly, you need to keep track of everything. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is thinking everything is going well, then get bombarded by your soon to be ex. If you don't have records then you won't be able to defend yourself. However, don't think this only revolves around money. It doesn't matter if it's telephone calls, emails, receipts, or any other information. Listen, divorce changes everyone so keep good records.

Then of course you should play fair. Even if he or she is grinding you any way they can, it's important to keep a level head. This way you don't do anything that is going to look bad in the eyes of the court. Let your ex take care of that issue.

Then of course don't act like a child. No one (like the judge) wants to here a classic case of the "he said, she said" divorce. Keeping control of your emotions will only look better for you. Let your soon to be ex look like the one that just came back from the playground. If you do, it will only make you look better.

Now, everything we already mentioned is crucial to making your divorce easier, but this one should never be forgotten. Make sure you wait until the divorce is over before you start dating again. While there are many reasons you probably want to get back out there, it will make everything go smoother if you don't date yet. Plus, rebound relationships are for the birds and will only scar you emotionally. Keep in mind that if you're dating while still married, you could technically be accused of adultery, which could be bad for you in the long run. If it's on your side, then your ex may press for more and things could get ugly.

Listen; there is no simple way to deal with divorce. Since everyone's emotions will be running high, it's up to you to contain yours. If you do, and take advantage of the guidelines we issued above, the overall experience will run a lot smoother. Then you'll finally be able to move on with your life.
